So in the spirit of giving back a little (and getting out of this damn apartment), I had recalled an email distribution I recieved from the area Obama coordinatior (I was a campaign donor in some small amounts) and it had a link to http://www.usaservice.org/ a search tool to find volunteer oportunities in your area. Found a Jewish Community Center by my place that was making PBJ sandwiches for a downtown shelter.
So this morning I went (fueled by Dunkin Donuts & coffee) and did the deed. It was fun, met some cool people (as you can see below), and ended up being the designated photographer. We did the sandwiches assembly line style and I was on packaging and ziplock bagging detail. Which luckily I have some previous experience with so I slipped into my role easily.
Here's some of my favorite shots below, which I passed onto the organizer, so they could be showing up on the web somewhere. This event by the way was also part of the Day of Service inititive thing which I think is for MLK day, and the search site is all done up in Obama colors but I'm not sure of the connection.
By the way, the pictures were taken with my iPhone so they're not as good quality as a regular camera would do, but for a phone I think they're damn good. As always you can click the image to see a larger version.
Gettin' Gloved Up...
Last two loaves.
Empty chair left of center was my station. Across from me sat Peanut Butter Application Specialiast First Class (with Clusters) Tim, and next to me was Jim "Jellyman" somethingorother.
The other table.
View from my station.
Peeps from the other table. That little girl is adorable.
My co-assemblers and the end result.
